Hey! Yo! Help with computer buying!

Sat May 26, 2007, 4:10 PM
I have a friend who is in need of a computer preeeetty badleh. She's been using this old old computer that still uses Win 98...

BUT!!! I'm not the brightest person in the whole computer business, thus, I would like to ask you all for help! @__@

It has to be a computer that...

1. Will be able to use it for a long long time without breaking down
2. Is under $1000
3. Has ports to connect tablets and stuff
4. Is available in Best Buy or Target or any other big stores (she wants to buy it personally instead of the internet, since she doesn't have a credit card)
5. Have all those goodies that would be nice to have
6. Is easy to use for computer newbs

I know there are many computer experts out there, so I trust in your recommendations! ; -- ;

Thank you ahead!

I'd help but I'm retarded. But maybe a Kingdom style computer, it is good and hasn't broken for over a year and so. I don't know how much it cost but I hope this helps a bit

Hotpockets come in two flavors. Boiling lava hot or frozen in the middle.

Acutally, I've got a recomendation. She can easily go to Staples or Office Max and they shoudl be able to price a computer to those specs in the store. Walmart and Target are great places to buy things for cheap, but not the best for picking out a computer.

I'll advise against a Dell. Those are un-upgradeable ><
:icontari-chan18:
Mac. Definitely. Period.

There's a place near me called Connecting Point that sells Apple stoof retail. I don't know if there's a place near your friend like that.

Mac is just awesome! It's easy to use, pretty interface, lots of useful programs pre-installed, dependable (doesn't break down very often). It's just the way to go, in my opinion. I'm not a total comp expert, but my dad works w/ computers all day, and he's a big Mac person.

Hope I've helped in some way! ^_^;

Apple is good, but expensive. You'd find most to be over $1000, yet I'd definitely recommend those over PCs. PCs suck in terms of usability, but are extremely inexpensive.

Hmm. Not sure what to counsel. Haven't been in the field in a while.

Personally I would call dell, they have a over the phone thing where you can tell them all you need, monitor, components and what not. The price ranges and they deliver it for you, I think that since your friend dosent have a credit card you can pay the from a local store and possibly pick it up your self but you or your friend would need to call and find out. And from what I saw it should be under $1000. If the helped at all note me^>^

Try BJ / Costco / places like those :D Usually they seel the computers in a set so you get the software and everything in between... I think

mmm... maybe she can pick her own parts and put together something cheap? Since i'm only familiar with prices of parts on the internet, you'll have to ask your friend to check these prices for herself.

1) Eagle Tech ET-CASW2-WOP-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
2) ABIT IB9 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
3) Leadtek PX8800 GTS TDH 320MB Extreme GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card
4) Ultra ULT31848 X-Finity 600W Power Supply (Black) Retail
5) Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E4300 1.8GHz 800MHz 2MB LGA775 CPU, OEM
6) SUPER TALENT 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory
7) Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

if you got those from E-bay, it'd only cost you around $601. If she can find parts similar to what i've listed at the stores, then she's good to go.
